Summer Classes
The summer Metal Clay classes have been scheduled at Dava Bead. They include a Art Clay Level-1 Certification Class. Please call as soon as possible to reserve your spot. I hope to see you there!
Art Clay Certification L-1
At your request, we are scheduling this Certification workshop over two weekends as opposed to three intense 8-hour days in a row. Four days and six hours of instruction per day is more manageable with everyone's summer activities. This is an inspiring and very exciting class. We have tons of fun, make lots of noise (did I mention that to Dava? Oops.) and are always sad to say goodbye at the end.
The cost is $575 for 9 projects. This includes four days of instruction, absolutely all your supplies ($325+ value), Art Clay Silver, mucho gemstones, findings, two books, and there are always surprise goodies. (in addition to some really good chocolate!)
Please contact Dava Bead directly for more info about registration, payment and specifics.
New Location - New Studio
All classes will be held at Dava Bead's expanded store (Opened July 1st) in the long awaited "Super-Duper Classroom". Yippee! In addition to Metal Clay classes, watch for an expanded list of jewelry classes at the new location. I'm looking forward to taking the Fusing Class on the 17th. Maybe I'll see you there?
New Metal Clay Program in Portland
I am so grateful for Dava's support in establishing
a regular Metal Clay program here in
After Dava completes their relocation this summer and can catch their collective breath, they are going to select your favorite Metal Clay supplies and tools as carry them as regular inventory. Please let us know which supplies and tools you would like to be able to purchase locally and I will add them to my ever expanding "Wish List". We hope to create a inspiring, productive space and a "home" for the local Metal Clay community. I am honored to have been asked to help them get started.
Designers and Dava
Did you know at the new Dava "Superstore", there will be a Wholesale Showroom? I am very particular (okay, super-picky) about my materials and am thrilled to be able to touch and evaluate items before making a purchase. I have often been unhappy to receive a shipment and discover what I got wasn't quite as tasty as it looked online. Has this happened to you? As a Designer, I am looking forward to having another trusted local resource for supplies. And in an uncertain economy, although some materials may be available elsewhere, I prefer to spend my money locally as much as possible.
Can you say Bronze?
More exciting news, you may want to sit down for this one. I don't know if you have heard about it yet, but there is a revolutionary Metal Clay product hitting the market this summer. It is a Bronze Metal Clay and is also a recycled product. It has longer firing requirements and slightly different working properties, but is projected to be more affordable than the current Silver Metal Clays. How cool is that??
The rumor is that a Copper Clay will be introduced in 2009 (also a reclaimed product). Wow, the innovations in this medium never stop! (See the June issue of Art Jewelry magazine for pictures of bronze jewelry to drool over. Slurp. Yum.)
Bronze Clay Classes in Portland?
More good news! I am travelling across the country to participate in an intense three-day BronzClay™ workshop. I am literally vibrating with anticipation. I'm bringing an empty suitcase to haul back all the clay & goodies I can carry. Picture me explaining my cargo to airport security. Hmmm, better get there early....really early.
My mind is reeling with ideas of incorporating this product into Silver Metal Clay jewelry. Naturally, my plans are to return and immediately begin offering BronzClay™ classes at Dava Bead. Can you wait? Will I see you there? Should I start that interest list right now?
If you're looking for chills and thrills, check out Celie Fago's site. In addition to being one of my all-time favorite jewelry artists (and my very 1st teacher), she has been working with the BronzClay™ for months and has (as usual) made some things that will take your breath away. Okay, maybe that's a little dramatic. But, if you are a "bead freak" like me, you will get it.
Much Thanks
Again, I want to thank Anita and the entire Dava Bead family for their ongoing support. When I began teaching Metal Clay in 2000, Anita was the first one to step up and give me the opportunity to share this revolutionary (and back then almost unheard of) jewelry medium with all of you. Please join me in continuing to support Dava Bead with your patronage.
Also, I thank all my new and returning students (some from five years ago!) for the great response to my recent classes. You gave me such a warm welcome back to Portland. I am grateful for your support.
Thank you for taking the time to read this far. I have a couple more tricks up my sleeve, but you'll have to wait for the Fall schedule to find out!
Thanks for visiting and please keep checking this site for more pictures, classes and news.
Cheers!
Lisa
